Welcome to Career Connectionsa Local Community Partnership (LCP) working with schools, employers and the community in the North of Melbourne.

Career Connections, through Career Advice Australia, is committed to “improving the quality of career education and helping all young people make a smooth transition from school to further education, training or work” and forming partnerships between schools, industry and the community.

Career Connections - Kangan Batman Tafe is a Local Community Partnership (LCP) and is a not for profit organisation under contract to the Australian Government as part of its Career Advice Australia initiative.

The Northern Workplace Education Network Inc (NWEN), trading as Career Connections, is the Local Community Partnership for a greater part of Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

NWEN has entered into a sub-contracting arrangement with RMIT University and Kangan Batman TAFE, covering the regions of Darebin, Whittlesea, Nillumbik, Hume and Moreland.

This website covers two regions: Hume and Moreland.

Career Connections facilitates the delivery of programmes to schools in all sectors (State, Catholic and Independent), enabling businesses and schools to work together so that young people gain knowledge of particular industries and so that industry can develop their future workforce.

Different programs as outlined below enable industry and schools to form closer links.

  • Joint School – Industry Projects

A business can work with an individual school or group of schools on a joint project, such as making a DVD on an aspect of the business’s operations.

  • Taking a student for a Workplacement

This can be for one or two weeks and gives the student a real life experience.  It also allows the business to make links with potential future employees.

  • Industry Tours

Allows you to introduce students to your industry and your particular business.

  • Our Local World of Work

This is a two hour structured interview conducted with two students at your premises.  The students then make a presentation on your business to their class.  Participating businesses are recognised at the ‘Opening Doors’ event held annually.

There are a number of other programs which the LCP facilitate.
