Creating Your
Future Workforce
A large part of the work of Career Connections
lies in building partnerships with local businesses and industry
and most employers are aware of the challenges in gaining
skilled and motivated workers; and in getting young people
interested in their industry.
Hence Local Community Partnerships (LCP's) enable businesses and
schools to work together so that young people gain knowledge of
particular industries and so that industry can develop their future
workforce.
This is done through a number of different programs which enable
industry and schools to form closer links.
- Businesses are able to increase the number of young people who
are aware of their industry.
- Businesses can increase their profile in the community.
- A business can try out possible future employees by taking
students for a one or two week Work placement.
- Businesses can make a genuine contribution to young people and
the local community.
Because there are a range of programs, businesses can choose to
participate in the ways which best suits them. These programs
include:
- Joint School – Industry Projects
A business can work with an
individual school or group of schools on a joint project, such as
making a DVD on an aspect of the business’s operations.
- Taking a student for a Workplacement
This can be for one or two weeks
and gives the student a real life experience. It also allows
the business to make links with potential future employees.
Allows you to introduce students
to your industry and your particular business.
This is a two hour structured
interview conducted with two students at your premises. The
students then make a presentation on your business to their
class. Participating businesses are recognised at the
‘Opening Doors’ event held annually.
There are a number of other programs all at no
cost to your business.
