two-fold purpose: to be used as an induction to new employees

Our Local World of
Work
This project involves students interviewing management,
staff or apprentice trainees from local businesses to gain a
broader understanding of local work available within their
regions. This project also gives students valuable experience
in communication with employers. The students compile a report on
their interview and then present to their students in a classroom
setting.
The culmination of the project is the “Opening Doors” event held
at the end of each year where the projects from all
participating schools within Hume, Moreland, Darebin and Whittlesea
are showcased to parents, employers and the wider community.
Mentoring
Career Connections has developed a reference list of successful
and positive mentoring programmes that are suitable for use in
schools.
Career Connections in conjunction with the Hume Whittlesea LLEN
and Roxburgh College are piloting a Mentoring Project entitled
Industry Links. Industry Links involves partnering a Year 11
student with an industry mentor to develop a mentoring relationship
to enable students to better understand the various industry
pathways available, the transferable skills developed in all
industries and to provide an industry exposure to students so that
their transition to further education and training is meaningful
and appropriate to their needs.

assistance for mock interviews. The LCP can come into your school
and conduct the interviews, or alternatively, can arrange for the
interviews to be held within local industries.
Industry Tours
Career Connections can facilitate tours to various industries
within the Hume and Moreland regions. This is a valuable experience
for students, who are able to gain access into industries and hear
first hand about pathways and career options within the
industry.
TAFE Tours
Similar to Industry Tours, as outlined above, Career Connections
can facilitate tours to TAFE. Our base at the Essendon Campus of
Kangan Batman TAFE gives us the edge in organising tours to the
various departments with Kangan and our in-house relationship
provides streamlined service. Please Phone 9094 3011 to
organise a tour.
